Maha Saker is an Associate Professor of Teaching in Arabic at Wayne State University's Near Eastern & Arabic Studies department, part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She joined the university in 2003 and has been actively teaching Arabic language courses, including Business Arabic, Media Arabic, and Modern Arabic Literature. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Damascus University, a postgraduate diploma in Translation and Interpreting from the same institution, and an MA in Applied Linguistics from Salford University, UK. She previously taught for eight years at Salford University before joining Wayne State's Doctorate program in Education and becoming a Program Coordinator for 'Pathways to Quality Teaching.'
Her research and professional focus centers on curriculum development, particularly in Arabic language education. She has secured multiple grants, including the FLTC Grant for Media Arabic materials (2012), Business Arabic curriculum development (2013), and the 2014 Educational Development Grant. Notably, she developed online courses for Media Arabic and Modern Arabic Literature.
Awarded the prestigious President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (2013), her teaching spans foundational to advanced Arabic courses, including Elementary Arabic, Business Arabic, and specialized topics in Middle Eastern Studies. Upcoming courses include Intermediate Arabic, Business Arabic, and Arabic for Healthcare Professions.
