Reem W Shishakly is a Senior Lecturer and inaugural Arabic Language Lecturer at the University of Texas at Arlington's Department of Modern Languages, serving since 2009. She coordinates the Arabic section and advises the Arabic Language & Culture Organization. Her roles include teaching Arabic language courses, cultural studies, and global issues.
Education: MA in Arabic Literature from Al-Madinah International University (2013), BA in English Language and Literature from University of Damascus (1984), and a Music Research Diploma from The Conservatory of Music in Damascus (1980).
Research Interests: Modern Arabic literature, translation studies, and technology integration in language education. Her work emphasizes pedagogical strategies for non-native Arabic learners and intertextuality in literary translation, particularly in Arabic poetry.
Grants: Co-Principal Investigator for the $89,980 NSF-funded STARTALK 2020: Let’s Go to Russia/the Middle East! (2020–2022).

Teaching & Mentorship: Teaches courses ranging from Beginning Arabic to advanced topics in Arabic literature and culture. Supervises internships through ARAB 4393. Active in curriculum development and online language teaching strategies.
