Magnus Ryner is a Professor of International Political Economy at King's College London, affiliated with the Department of European & International Studies within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. His academic career includes positions at Brunel University, Birmingham University, and Oxford Brookes University before joining King's in 2012.

Research interests focus on International Political Economy, European Monetary Union dynamics, neoliberalism, social democracy, and labor movements. He explores how micro-processes of work and production interact with macro-developments of global order, particularly in the context of the Eurozone crisis. His work critiques neoliberal governance and its impact on welfare states and democratic institutions.
Recent articles highlight trends in EU policy, crisis management, and the political economy of austerity. Key themes include Nordic responses to EU governance, the intersection of environmental policy and crisis recovery, and the historical underpinnings of European monetary integration.
Awards & Fellowships: SSHRCC Postdoctoral Research Fellow (1996–97), Jean Monnet Fellow (1997–98), and recipient of a prestigious fellowship for a research project in 2020.
Grants & Projects: Led initiatives such as 'PRIVATIZATION' (EU privatization post-crisis), 'Crisis Management in the EMU,' and 'INSOFI' (Inequality in Finland). These projects analyze neoliberal impacts, welfare regimes, and EU policy dynamics.
