Magnus Jegermalm is a Professor of Social Work at Marie Cederschiöld University, with affiliations at Jönköping School of Health Sciences, Stony Brook University, and Dalarna University. His career spans teaching, research, and administrative roles, including past leadership positions as Head of the Department of Social Sciences and Head of Research at Jönköping School of Health Sciences.
His research focuses on informal caregiving, voluntary organizations, and their intersection within the Swedish welfare state. Key themes include caregiver support systems, the evolving role of civil society in elderly care, and cross-national comparisons of care dynamics. Since 2020, he has led a Forte-funded project analyzing gaps between municipal family support and caregiver experiences.
The 15 most recent publications highlight his work on caregiver typologies, institutionalization effects on mental health patients, informal-voluntary collaboration in Nordic countries, and longitudinal trends in caregiving. Articles emphasize interdisciplinary approaches bridging social work, gerontology, public policy, and gender studies.
