Maggie Tsang is an Assistant Professor at Rice University, specializing in landscape architecture, urbanism, and infrastructure. She is the cofounder and managing principal of Dept., a Houston-based studio recognized for innovative projects like the Good Neighbor Stormwater Park (winner of multiple awards). Her research bridges ecological systems, urban design, and community engagement.
Education: M.Des. from Harvard University, M.Arch. and B.A. from Yale University.
Current teaching includes ARCH 450: Garden Ecologies, ARCH 401: Advanced Topics I – Environment, and ARCH 102: Principles of Architecture II.
Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, such as leading the “Community Oriented Stormwater Infrastructure” initiative with Civil Engineering and Sociology departments. Dept. has also curated exhibitions like Big, Hot, and Sticky at the Architecture Center Houston.
Awards highlight her contributions to sustainable design, including the 2022 League Prize and Architect’s Newspaper accolades.
