Professor Maggie Popkin holds the rank of Professor of Art History at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). She is currently on research leave for Spring 2025. Her expertise lies in ancient Roman art, architecture, and visual culture, with a focus on memory, power dynamics, and empire studies. She has authored two books and edited a volume, and her work has been featured in prestigious journals like Hesperia and American Journal of Archaeology. She is also a principal investigator for a National Endowment for the Humanities-supported project on the Nike of Samothrace, highlighted in Archaeology magazine.

Research Interests: Professor Popkin investigates the intersection of architecture, art, and spectacle in the Roman world, exploring how visual culture shaped collective memory and power structures. Her current projects include studies on ancient sport’s material culture and the application of extended reality (XR) technologies to analyze embodied religion and sacred spaces. She has conducted fieldwork at archaeological sites like Selinunte (Sicily) and Samothrace (Greece).
