Marconi Clemente is a Full Professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of Milan and holds the James R. McCredie Professorship of Greek Art and Archaeology at New York University's Institute of Fine Arts. He leads excavations at Selinunte, Sicily, in collaboration with NYU. His academic journey includes a PhD from Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (1997) and a B.A. from the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' (1990).
His research focuses on classical archaeology, cultural anthropology, and architectural history, with notable contributions to temple decoration, Greek art, and cross-cultural studies. He has been awarded the Corresponding Membership at the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut (2015–present) and the Visiting Professorship at the Australian Archaeological Institute (2019).
Clemente has secured grants from the Malcolm Hewitt Wiener Foundation and Kress Foundation for the Selinunte Project. He serves on editorial boards for journals like Journal of Ancient Architecture and has reviewed for prestigious institutions, including the National Humanities Center and the Austrian Science Fund.
His academic leadership includes roles on tenure committees at Columbia, Yale, and others, and he contributes to public scholarship through articles linking ancient art to modern movements like Picasso's sculpture.
