Magdy Selim

Magdy Selim, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. He serves as Chief of the Division of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease and Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston. Dr. Selim earned his medical and doctoral degrees from the University of Alexandria – Faculty of Medicine in Egypt, followed by residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and fellowship at BIDMC.

Dr. Selim’s research focuses on intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), including pathophysiology, neuroimaging (MRI/CT), clinical trial design, and therapeutic interventions like deferoxamine and minimally invasive surgery. His work spans cerebral small vessel disease, coagulopathy, and neuroprotection in stroke.

His clinical trials, such as SATURN, i-DEF, and ENRICH, emphasize ICH management. Key publications highlight QSM MRI for microbleed detection, cortical superficial siderosis, and liver-brain interactions in ICH outcomes.
