Magdalena Pilch

Magdalena Pilch is a Professor of Art at the Academy of Music in Łódź (G. and K. Bacewicz Academy of Music), where she has been employed since 2009 leading the traverso flute class. She additionally collaborates with the K. Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice since 2018 within the Department of Harpsichord and Historical Performance Practice, focusing on period instrument performance.

Her academic background includes:

• Graduation in 1997 from the flute class of Grzegorz Olkiewicz at the K. Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław
• Postgraduate studies completion in 2002 under Prof. Dr. Linde Brunmayr-Tutz at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen, Germany

Professor Pilch specializes in Historical Performance Practice across Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras on period flutes. Her research integrates practical performance with musicological scholarship, particularly through the study of historical treatises. She actively promotes early music through ensemble direction and editorial work, emphasizing authentic performance techniques and instrument-specific practices.

She serves as editor-in-chief of the semi-annual scientific journal "Notes Muzyczny" and created Poland's first dedicated resource for historical flutes (flettraverso.pl), significantly advancing accessibility of primary sources in Polish through translations of Hotteterre and Tromlitz's seminal flute treatises.
