Michael Schmidt-Casdorff

Michael Schmidt-Casdorff serves as a lecturer at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, and F. Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, while maintaining an active international performance career as principal flutist with Orchestra of the 18th Century, Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble, and Neue Düsseldorfer Hofmusik.

His educational foundation was established at Hochschule für Musik in Detmold (Münster department) under Konrad Hünteler, where he specialized in modern flute and traverso flute.

As a leading specialist in Historical Performance Practice, Schmidt-Casdorff focuses on Baroque Flute authenticity and Chamber Music interpretation, with documented collaborations including Concentus Musicus Wien under Nikolaus Harnoncourt. His expertise manifests through period-instrument performances emphasizing 18th-century stylistic conventions.

He conducts traverso flute and chamber music master classes across major European centers (Basel, Warsaw, Karlsruhe, Salzburg, Düsseldorf, Neuburg an der Donau) while directing the traverso flute program at F. Nowowiejski Academy of Music since 2009, training emerging early music performers through practical pedagogy.
