Magda Romanska is a Professor of Performing Arts and Media at Emerson College and Principal Researcher at Harvard's metaLAB. She chairs Harvard's Mahindra Humanities Center Transmedia Arts seminar and leads the Digital Access Research Project (DARP) at the Berkman Klein Center. Her work focuses on transmedia storytelling, human-AI interaction, and digital accessibility in performance arts. Romanska founded theTheatreTimes.com, IOTF (International Online Theatre Festival), and Performap.org, which received LMDA Innovation Grant funding.
Education: PhD from Cornell University, undergraduate at Stanford University.
Research Interests: Combines quantitative analysis (drametrics) with qualitative studies on posthumanism, disability studies, and AI ethics. Advocates for inclusive digital infrastructure and legal frameworks for streaming access in disability rights.
Awards & Recognition: Recipient of MacDowell Fellowship, Elliott Hayes Dramaturgy Award, and Culture Online International Award (2021 for IOTF). Holds advisory roles for DigitalTheatre+ and Leonardo Society.
Projects: IOTF reached 1M+ participants; DARP addresses digital accessibility laws globally. Launched Performap.org as interactive theatre festival map.
