Maegan Shanks is an Instructor in the School of Language, Education, and Culture at Gallaudet University, specializing in International Development. She holds an MA in International Development and a BA in English and Philosophy. Her teaching focuses on courses such as Introduction to International Development and Program Development and Evaluation for Social Change.
Her research interests center on disability inclusion in global development, disaster risk reduction, and intersectional approaches to policy design. Notable work includes analyzing disability-inclusive education policies in Sub-Saharan Africa and advancing inclusive emergency preparedness strategies for deaf and disabled communities. She has contributed to USAID policy reviews and US Foreign Service inclusion initiatives.
Shanks actively advises MA students in International Development programs and participates in institutional committees. She co-developed Gallaudet’s Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DEP) program and collaborates with organizations like Mobility International USA (MIUSA) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
