Kristen Harmon is a Professor in the School of Language, Education, and Culture at Gallaudet University. She teaches courses in English literature, writing, and multicultural perspectives, with notable expertise in Deaf literature, queer literature, and ethnographic writing. Her research focuses on intersections between disability studies, eugenics history, and literary representation. Harmon has advised numerous honors projects and contributed to the Gallaudet Classics in Deaf Studies series as a series editor.
Her scholarly work includes analyses of early 20th-century Deaf writers critiquing eugenics, reciprocal ethnography methodologies, and utopian/dystopian narratives in Deaf literature. Harmon has received the 2022 Faculty/Staff Commitment Award (LGBTQ) for her contributions to inclusive academic environments.
