His research explores Hans Christian Andersen's early fairy tales' role in European children's literature evolution, Nietzschean influences in Johannes V. Jensen's historical fiction, and ancient mythology's reception in modern literature. Current projects include a 150-page monograph on Andersen's 1830s-1840s tales and a book on Jensen's The Fall of the King.
Recent publications examine British Golden Age illustrations of Andersen's works and global reception patterns. His articles span Danish 19th-20th century literature, including analyses of Jens Baggesen, Adam Oehlenschläger, and Sophus Claussen. Collaborations include Adam Mickiewicz University (2025) and foundational work on Russian-Danish literary connections.
Active in Erasmus Mundus internationalization, Jessen contributes to digital preservation of Andersen's works and participates in peer review and research network activities. His methodological focus combines textual genesis studies with cross-cultural comparative analysis.
