Mads Pagh Nielsen is a Professor at Aalborg University, affiliated with AAU Energy and the Thermal Engineering department within the Faculty of Engineering and Science. He leads the Electro Fuel Research Program and serves as Vice Head of Department for Education and Head of Studies. His research focuses on renewable energy systems, carbon capture and utilization, hydrogen technologies, and sustainable energy transitions. Notable contributions include work on green ammonia production, cryogenic CO₂ capture in industrial contexts, and smart energy system integration.
He has supervised numerous PhD projects, including studies on carbon capture system integration, green methanol production, and power-to-fuels technologies. His work has been recognized with awards such as the Uddannelses- og Forskningsministeriets Undervisningspris 2023 and multiple teaching accolades from Aalborg University.
Key research activities include leadership in projects like the eSAF initiative for sustainable aviation fuel in Aalborg and collaborations on cross-sectoral carbon capture strategies. His publications span over 100 articles, emphasizing techno-economic analyses and system integration challenges in decarbonization.
