Madli Sepper is a Junior Research Fellow in Religious Studies (0.66 FTE) at the University of Tartu's School of Theology and Religious Studies (Faculty of Arts and Humanities) and an Extraordinary Lecturer (0.10 FTE) at the Institute of Theology of the EELC. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Religious Studies at the University of Tartu, focusing on Epitaphioi in Estonian Orthodox Churches, their age and practices. She holds a Master of Arts in Native Crafts from the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy (2019).
Her research explores Orthodox ecclesiastical and liturgical textiles through the lenses of cultural anthropology and ethnology, with emphasis on:
- Symbolism and technology of religious textiles
- Cultural heritage preservation
- Local influences on Estonian Orthodox material culture
Her publications analyze the origins, restoration, and socio-cultural significance of Orthodox textiles in Estonia, reflecting interdisciplinary approaches spanning anthropology, religious studies, and material culture.
She engages in public scholarship through radio lectures on Orthodox textiles (Ortodoksia, Looja ja looming, Ajaloominutid) and co-curated the exhibition Kõik mustrid minus kiitku Issandat (2017–2018). No awards, grants, or student advisements are documented.
