Madina Tlostanova is a Professor of Postcolonial Feminism at the Department of Thematic Studies (TEMA) at Linköping University. Her research focuses on decoloniality, postcolonial feminism, and the decolonization of knowledge systems, particularly within universities and museums. She emphasizes resisting Euromodernity’s colonial legacies through collaborations with activists, artists, and scholars globally.
Her academic work bridges theory and practice, addressing topics such as decolonizing gender studies, rethinking aesthetics beyond Western norms, and challenging memory politics. Key projects include the Re-Collect/Remind initiative exploring Cold War childhood experiences and decolonizing phenomenology. She actively participates in international conferences and hothouses fostering new political imaginaries.
Tlostanova’s research interests include post-Soviet coloniality, feminist border thinking, and the intersection of art and decolonial praxis. She supervises doctoral students like Caroline Betemps and collaborates with institutions like the KONE Foundation and Södertörn University. Her work advocates for interdisciplinary approaches to dismantle epistemic hierarchies and foster pluriversal knowledge systems.
