Dr Madeline-Sophie Abbas is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology (Race and Anti-Racism) at Lancaster University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, joining in 2022. Her work focuses on critical race theory, Islamophobia, counter-terrorism policies, and institutional racism. She has held positions at Leeds Trinity University, the University of Manchester, and Cambridge University’s Centre for the Study of Human Movement. Abbas holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Leeds.
Research: Her current projects investigate counter-terrorism policing, citizenship stripping, and human rights. A 2022 Research England-funded project analyzed the impact of Prevent legislation on British Muslim communities. She also examines refugee/migration dynamics and racial equity in higher education.

Teaching: Leads modules on Racisms and Racial Formations (SOCL243) and MA Dissertations (SOCL949). Engages in guest lectures on Global Social Theory and Gender Studies.
Activities: Peer-reviewed publications for British Journal of Sociology, participated in workshops on decolonial science, Brexit’s impact on citizenship, and refugee advocacy.
