Madeleine Tolani

Prof. Dr. Madeleine Tolani is a Professor of Civil Law at Hochschule Wismar since 2020. She holds a dual expertise in German and comparative law, with a focus on civil procedure, insolvency law, family law, and European private law. Her career includes academic roles at universities in Greifswald, Passau, and Freiburg, as well as judicial experience as a judge in Stralsund (2019–2020). She earned her Ph.D. (summa cum laude) from Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University Greifswald (2009) and an LL.M. from Golden Gate University (2010).

Her research spans procedural law innovations, European legal harmonization, and cross-border inheritance conflicts. Notable works include her habilitation on procedural models (2017) and commentaries on EU succession law and insolvency regulations. Awards include the Promotionspreis Greifswald (2009) and federal funding for her habilitation.

Teaching responsibilities include leading the B.A. program in Business Law and advising on legal matters. She actively contributes to legal education through workshops and is affiliated with the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA).
