Madadh Richey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis University. Her research focuses on the visual and textual culture of the ancient Middle East, particularly Mesopotamia and the Levant during the Iron Age (ca. 1175–550 BCE). She is affiliated with the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies and specializes in epigraphy and the study of divine-combat imagery.
- Education: Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Chicago, B.A. from Boston College.
Her scholarship examines the social contexts of ancient art and newly discovered inscriptions in Northwest Semitic languages, including Aramaic, Hebrew, Phoenician, Punic, and Ugaritic. Her forthcoming book, Visions of Gods and Monsters: Divine Combat in Ancient Middle Eastern Art and Society (Oxford University Press), highlights her contributions to the field.
Madadh Richey’s work bridges archaeology, art history, and epigraphy, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between divine iconography and societal structures in the ancient Near East. She also contributes to Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies through interdisciplinary approaches.
