Nathaniel Greene

Dr. Nathaniel Greene is a Lecturer in the School of Divinity, History, Philosophy & Art History at the University of Aberdeen. His research focuses on Northwest Semitic languages, epigraphy, and the socio-political context of ancient Near Eastern inscriptions, utilizing advanced imaging techniques like Reflectance Transformation Imaging for textual analysis.

Research Interests: Nathaniel specializes in ancient Semitic languages and epigraphy with emphasis on Palmyrene Aramaic inscriptions, biblical text formation, and Iron Age writing systems. His methodological approach integrates philological analysis with archaeological context to investigate scribal practices and cultural exchange in the ancient Levant.

Publications: His scholarship includes critical editions of inscriptions from Palmyra and Roman Dacia, studies of divine feminine imagery in biblical texts, and analyses of script development during state formation periods. Recent work applies computational imaging to paleographic problems.
