Maciek Lubczynski is an Associate Professor in the Department of Water Resources at the International Institute for Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation (ITC Faculty), University of Twente, The Netherlands. He holds a PhD in Hydrogeology and has expertise in subsurface hydrology, ecohydrology, remote sensing, and hydrogeophysics. His research focuses on groundwater management, integrated hydrological modeling, and climate change impacts on water resources. Dr. Lubczynski has supervised numerous PhD and MSc students and contributed to over 147 publications. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Applied Geophysics and an active member of international hydrological associations.
Education: MSc in Geology (Hydrogeology specialization), MSc (Ir) in Civil Engineering (Geo-hydro-engineering), PhD in Hydrogeology.
Research Interests: Hydrogeological modeling, ecohydrology of tree-water interactions, remote sensing applications, groundwater recharge/exfiltration processes, and data integration techniques. Current projects include studies in Spain’s Sardon Catchment, Madagascar, Botswana’s Kalahari, and Bali Island, Indonesia.
Supervision and Grants: Advised 36 MSc students and co-supervised many others. His research group focuses on advancing methods for groundwater monitoring and modeling, including novel sap flow measurement techniques and coupled model development (e.g., MARMITES-MODFLOW).
Labs/Teams: Member of the Water Cycle and Climate research theme and the Hydrogeology and Ecohydrology cluster at ITC. Collaborates globally on projects addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals related to water resources and climate resilience.
