Maciej Barczewski

Maciej Barczewski serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Human Rights and Intellectual Property Law at the University of Gdańsk's Faculty of Law and Administration. He concurrently leads the Non-Stationary Doctoral Studies in Law (English-language program) and acts as an international expert for entities including the European Parliament, European Commission, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and Polish Association of Private Hospitals. Previously, he held positions as Adjunct Professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law (2007-2009) and Visiting Researcher at the University of Oxford (2010).

His research centers on intellectual property law's intersection with digital technology, human rights, and public health. Key focus areas include copyright frameworks in digital environments, pharmaceutical patent flexibilities under TRIPS, treaty mechanisms like ACTA and TPP, and audiovisual performers' rights under the Beijing Treaty. His work critically examines tensions between proprietary rights and societal interests, particularly regarding medicine access and cultural participation.
