Maarten van Ham is Professor of Urban Geography and Head of the Department of Urbanism at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). He also holds the position of Professor of Human Geography at the University of St Andrews in Scotland since 2011. His research focuses on the relationship between people and their urban environments, with particular emphasis on neighborhood effects and residential mobility.
Dr. van Ham is fascinated by changes in cities and neighborhoods and how neighborhood characteristics influence people's lives. His work addresses critical questions about neighborhood renewal, the effects of mixed neighborhoods, and the relationship between residential mobility and neighborhood change. He has published extensively in leading journals and authored several influential books on neighborhood dynamics.
