MARIA SALOME ALVAREZ ALVAREZ

Maria Salome Alvarez Alvarez is a researcher in the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Vigo, affiliated with the College of Mining Engineering and the BE3 (Biotechnological, Energy, and Environmental Engineering) research group. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering (2015) from the University of Vigo, with a thesis focused on remediating contaminated effluents using physical and biological methods.

Her research centers on biocompatible platforms for pollutant extraction, biofuels production, and the use of alternative solvents for environmental applications. She has conducted international research stays in Portugal (Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology) and the USA (Princeton University's Henry H. Hoyt Laboratory), and collaborates with institutions such as the Technion (Israel), University of Dresden (Germany), and University of La Serena (Chile).

She has published 46 JCR-indexed articles and presented over 30 communications at international/national congresses. Her contributions to training include co-directing a PhD thesis (University of Vigo, 2021), supervising 3 master's theses, and participating in the FONCyT (Argentina) evaluator bank. She serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering and the Journal of Research in Engineering and Technology.
