MARIA PILAR LLOMPART VIZOSO

Dr. MARIA PILAR LLOMPART VIZOSO is a Professor in the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Nutrition and Bromatology at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), affiliated with the Faculty of Chemistry. She leads the LIDSA Laboratory for Research and Development of Analytical Solutions and is part of the ChromChem Chromatography and Chemimetry research group. Her work focuses on advancing analytical methodologies for environmental, food, and cosmetic safety, particularly in the areas of sample preparation, emerging pollutants, and recycled material toxicity. She holds a Ph.D. from USC (1996), advised by Dr. Rafael Cela Torrijos and Dr. Rosa Antonia Lorenzo Ferreira.

Her research emphasizes sustainable analytical techniques and the assessment of hazardous substances in recycled tire rubber, cosmetics, and water. Key contributions include developing sorbent materials for pollutant extraction, evaluating bioaccessibility of toxic chemicals, and advocating for stricter regulations on microplastics in artificial turf. She collaborates with the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Environmental Technologies (CRETUS) to address interdisciplinary environmental challenges.

Notable achievements include pioneering studies on the photodegradation of UV filters and fungicides, as well as the development of green methodologies for analyzing personal care products. Her work bridges fundamental research and practical applications, aiming to improve regulatory compliance and public health through advanced analytical tools.
