M. Àngels Fortea is a Professor at the Barcelona University Center for Arts and Design (BAU), where she serves as Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Design Research and Experimentation and BAU Ediciones. She teaches in the Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design and Visual Communication program within the School of Design and Fine Arts.
Her educational background includes a degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Barcelona (UAB) and a PhD in Design obtained through the Advanced Studies in Artistic Productions program at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Barcelona (UB).
Dr. Fortea specializes in the history of design with research interests spanning graphic design, visual communication, and pop culture in 1960s design. Her current research focus centers on design and gender, specifically working to give visibility to female graphic designers and address historical gender discrimination in the field. She actively seeks recognition for women's contributions to graphic design and visual communication history.
As part of her academic responsibilities, she engages in research activities and thesis supervision while coordinating BAU Ediciones, the university's publishing arm. Her work combines historical scholarship with contemporary efforts to reshape design narratives through a gender-inclusive lens.
