Lynn Schofield Clark is a Distinguished Professor in the Media, Film & Journalism Studies Department at the University of Denver's College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. She also serves as Director of the Estlow International Center for Journalism and New Media. Her affiliations include the University of Denver Center on American Politics and the Joint Doctoral Program in Religious Studies with Iliff School of Theology.
Clark holds a Ph.D. in Media Studies from the University of Colorado (1998), MA in Religion and Communication from United Theological Seminary (1991), and BA in Communications from Westminster College (1986). Her research focuses on youth voice, digital media, social inequality, and participatory politics, with notable works such as Young People and the Future of News (2017) and The Parent App (2013).
Her work bridges critical race theory and indigenous epistemologies, examining youth journalism, social movements, and media literacy. She has held visiting roles at institutions like Södertörn University (Sweden) and the University of Copenhagen, and served as President of the Association of Internet Researchers (2019–2021). Her interdisciplinary research emphasizes marginalized communities, digital activism, and the intersection of technology with social justice.
Clark’s scholarship spans topics like mobile media’s role in civic engagement, TikTok/Instagram activism among BIPOC youth, and the mediatization of religion. Her recent studies explore how low-income youth navigate digital participation during crises and the challenges of cultivating youth voice in community programs.
