Lynn Owens is an Associate Professor of Communication at Meredith College, where she has taught since 2006. She advises Meredith College Student News (MCSN) and previously served as faculty advisor for student newscasts at UNC Chapel Hill, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Duke University. Her research focuses on newsroom best practices and diversity in broadcast news.

Her professional background includes roles as a reporter at WNCT-TV (Greenville, NC) and technical producer at Reuters Television in London. Owens has received the Edward R. Murrow Award and Emmy nominations for her journalistic work and was named one of the nation’s top journalism educators by Crain’s NewsPro.
She currently serves on the board of directors for the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC) and Southlight Healthcare, a nonprofit focused on mental health and substance abuse treatment.
