Professor Dame Lynn Gladden is a leading academic at the University of Cambridge, serving as Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research since 2010 and Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology. She is affiliated with Trinity College and holds the Shell Professorship of Chemical Engineering. Her research focuses on magnetic resonance techniques, catalysis, and terahertz applications, with implications for pharmaceutical delivery systems and chemical engineering innovation.
- BSc, Chemical Physics, University of Bristol (1982)
- PhD, Physical Chemistry, University of Cambridge (1987)
Her work pioneers next-generation MR techniques, including compressed sensing and portable low-field MRI systems, for studying multi-phase flows and reactor hydrodynamics. She also applies THz-TDS for pharmaceutical characterization and collaborates on computational modeling tools like lattice-Boltzmann methods.
- Beilby Medal (1995)
- Tilden Lectureship & Silver Medal (2000)
- OBE (2001) and CBE (2009)
- Fellow of Royal Society (FRS), Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng), and other distinguished institutions
She leads interdisciplinary research teams at Cambridge, including the Magnetic Resonance group and Terahertz Applications group, and has collaborated with Microsoft Research to optimize data acquisition techniques.
