Lynn Batchelder is Chair and Associate Professor of Art in the Metals Program at the State University of New York at New Paltz. She holds an MFA from SUNY New Paltz and a BFA from Western Michigan University. Her work bridges jewelry, sculpture, and drawing, focusing on translating hand-drawn marks into metal through techniques like engraving, electroforming, and chiseling. She has led workshops at major craft schools and received notable awards including the 2016 Art Jewelry Forum Artist Award and 2020 Peter S. Reed Grant.
Research interests center on primal mark-making, material experimentation, and the intersection of craft and contemporary art. Recent works explore chiseling, anodizing, and layered copper engraving, emphasizing duality between precision and spontaneity. Exhibitions include solo shows at Gallery Loupe (2021) and international venues in Germany, South Korea, Sweden, and Australia.
