Lynmarie Thompson serves as Professor and Director of the Chemistry-Biology Interface Program (CBI) within the Department of Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Her academic credentials include:
- B.S. from California Institute of Technology
- Ph.D. from Yale University
- Postdoctoral Fellowship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Her research centers on membrane protein mechanisms critical to cellular energy transduction and signal processing. Employing solid-state NMR and biochemical methodologies, her laboratory investigates bacterial chemotaxis receptors' piston-like signaling mechanisms and ATP-driven conformational changes in ABC transporters. This work bridges fundamental biophysics with pharmaceutical applications, as membrane proteins represent major drug targets despite structural characterization challenges.
Thompson leads collaborative research initiatives including joint projects with Robert Weis' laboratory to develop molecular models of transmembrane signaling arrays.
