Lynda M. Ashbourne is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Relations & Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph, within the College of Social & Applied Human Sciences. Her research adopts a social constructionist lens to explore family dynamics, focusing on resilience in the face of cultural, migratory, and systemic challenges. She holds a PhD (2008) and MSc (1993) from the University of Guelph.
Her work examines family relationships across migration, trauma, and cultural adaptation, with specific attention to spousal and parent-child dynamics. Collaborations include developing the Culturally Integrative Family Safety Response (CIFSR) model with Dr. Mohammed Baobaid and investigating human-dog interactions in families with Dr. Andrea Breen. She uses qualitative methods like Grounded Theory and Narrative Analysis.
Her 2016 publication with Routledge highlights culturally responsive interventions for newcomer families, emphasizing safety and conflict resolution. Current projects address systemic service gaps for collectivist communities at risk of family violence. She advises MSc students in Family Relations & Human Development.
