Research Interests: Dr. Buchholz examines dietary patterns, sleep, stress, and physical activity in early childhood, with a focus on preventing obesity and cardiometabolic disorders. Her work integrates biobehavioral models and emphasizes family-based interventions. Key topics include dairy consumption, sodium/sugar intake, and the impact of food processing on health outcomes.
Lab & Collaborations: Her Body Composition Lab conducts advanced measurements (e.g., DXA scans) to assess adiposity and metabolic health. Collaborations include the Guelph Family Health Study, investigating home-based obesity prevention strategies. Recent work highlights associations between family stress, cortisol levels, and childhood BMI.
Teaching & Training: She mentors students in clinical nutrition and dietetic research methods. Current trainee positions are filled, but her lab actively recruits researchers for future projects.
Labs/Teams: Body Composition Lab (Rooms 285-287, Food Science Addition) and contributions to the Guelph Family Health Study consortium.
