Dr Lynda Dunlop is a Senior Lecturer in Science Education at the University of York, affiliated with the University of York Science Education Group (UYSEG). Her work focuses on environmental and climate change education, youth participation in environmental decision-making, and the intersection of science education with political and philosophical issues. She directs the Education for Environmental Sustainability at York initiative and has led influential projects like the British Educational Research Association’s 2021 commission on Education for Environmental Sustainability.
Her research is supported by major funders including the ESRC, Wellcome Trust, and Gatsby Foundation. Teaching awards include the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching (2018). Dunlop collaborates internationally on projects like Game Changers (climate communication) and Dialogue on Climate Engineering with Youth (DICEY). She leads the MSc Environmental Sustainability Education and Communication program, blending interdisciplinary approaches to address global environmental challenges.
Research interests include youth activism, public engagement with science, and curriculum design for sustainability. Key projects include Science Beyond the Boundaries, Primary Communities of Scientific Enquiry, and systematic reviews of primary science teaching. She advocates for teacher agency in climate education and co-created policy briefs with youth stakeholders.
Grants and collaborations span UKRI, RSA, and interdisciplinary partnerships. Dunlop has published widely on topics ranging from fracking’s societal impacts to philosophical dialogue in science classrooms.
