Lynda Barry is an Associate Professor in Interdisciplinary Creativity and the Chazen Family Distinguished Chair in Art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, renowned for expanding the emotional and thematic range of American comics through her 30-year comic strip "Ernie Pook's Comeek".
She earned her degree from Evergreen State College (1974-1978) under mentor Marilyn Frasca, whose exploration of images' role in daily life profoundly shaped Barry's artistic philosophy.
Barry's work centers on comics, visual storytelling, and interdisciplinary creativity, investigating touchy subjects through graphic narratives while dismantling barriers to artistic expression for both professionals and amateurs. Her teaching emphasizes creative risk-taking as evidenced by public writing workshops and "Seeing-Eye" lecture series.
