Luz S. Marín

Luz S. Marín is a Professor in the Department of Safety Sciences and Environmental Engineering at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, within the John J. and Char Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. She joined the faculty in 2016.

Dr. Marín's research focuses on occupational safety and health across multiple industries, including construction, manufacturing, mining, and agriculture. She investigates safety climate and its association with safety outcomes, with a particular emphasis on vulnerable worker populations and Hispanic workers. Her work also involves designing and evaluating workplace interventions to improve safety and health conditions, studying modifiable risk factors for musculoskeletal disorders, and addressing safety challenges in Latin America.

Her recent publications (2019) cover diverse areas: safety climate in construction, risk perceptions in chemistry laboratories, and whole-body vibration in mining. These works reflect her interdisciplinary approach, bridging ergonomics, public health, and safety management to address real-world occupational hazards.

She is an active member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), serving as the assistant administrator (2020–22) of the ASSP Hispanic Safety Professionals, and a member of the American Public Health Association. With 10 years of industry consulting experience, she integrates practical insights into her academic contributions.
