Prof. Dr. Lutz Hagestedt is a Professor of Modern and Contemporary German Literature at the Department of German Studies, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Rostock. He oversees research and teaching in German literature from 1750 to present, with additional responsibilities in academic administration and student supervision.
His educational background includes studies at Bielefeld University and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where he earned his doctorate with a thesis on Ludwig Tieck's late work. He completed his habilitation at Philipps University of Marburg in 2004 before joining the University of Rostock.
Hagestedt's research explores both historical and systematic dimensions of German literature, with particular focus on pragmatic aspects including book trade history, literary criticism, canonization processes, and literary sociology. He employs interdisciplinary methodologies drawing from anthropology, cybernetics, and philosophy to examine literary phenomena.
