Dr. Luke White is Senior Lecturer in Visual Cultures at Middlesex University's School of Design, specializing in martial arts cinema and visual culture studies. His research examines Hong Kong's kung fu and wuxia film traditions, particularly their global cultural impact since the 1970s 'kung fu craze'.
White's publications include Legacies of the Drunken Master analyzing Jackie Chan's cinematic politics and Fighting without Fighting exploring Western reception of martial arts cinema. Current projects investigate the cultural politics of martial arts representation in global media, including science fiction and digital platforms.
He supervises doctoral researchers studying visual culture, film history, and cinematic representation. White teaches critical theory and visual analysis across fine art and illustration programs, employing frameworks from postcolonial studies, queer theory, and aesthetic philosophy.
