معرفی
Dr Rebecca White is a Research Postgraduate in the Department of English Studies and serves as a tutor for the Introduction to the Novel course. Her academic work centers on the adaptation of nineteenth-century literature to screen, with a focus on costume drama and heritage cinema.
White's research interests include adaptation studies, costume drama, nineteenth-century literature, film and television studies, heritage cinema, and intertextuality. She critically examines the evolution of period adaptations, questioning notions of nostalgia and heritage, and investigates the formation of a generic style in contemporary costume drama through non-comparative and fidelity theories.
Her scholarly publications from 2008-2011 consistently analyze adaptations of Brontë, Gaskell, and Austen works, revealing tensions between traditional narrative elements and modern cinematic techniques. White's research demonstrates how contemporary adaptations respond to preceding screen versions while reshaping cultural perceptions of nineteenth-century literature.
