Dr Luke Graham is a Researcher at the University of Exeter’s School of Education, affiliated with the Exeter Biodiversity & People network. He has over 20 years of experience in education, including roles as a teacher, head of department, deputy head, and head of STEM strategy for the UK Department for Education (DfE). He currently focuses on policy impacts on school practices, particularly STEM education equity in rural and non-traditional settings.
His research explores intersections between science education, social justice, and spatial factors. Notable projects include investigating barriers faced by rural students, home-educated pupils, and those outside conventional education systems. He advocates for inclusive STEM career pathways and critiques policy frameworks like the 'leaky pipeline' metaphor.
Recent work analyzes STEM workforce skill gaps, evaluates social mobility programs (e.g., YEP!), and addresses safety in science teaching. His outputs bridge academic research with practical educational strategies.
