Lukas Paul Fesenfeld is a senior lecturer and researcher at ETH Zurich and the University of Bern, affiliated with the Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research. He holds a PhD in International Political Economy and Environmental Politics from ETH Zurich and has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Bern/EAWAG and the Andlinger Center at Princeton University. His research focuses on environmental policy analysis, political economy of food systems, and climate governance. Notably, he co-founded the non-profit NAHhaft for sustainable food strategies and chairs expert panels on food system transformation. His work combines experimental methods with qualitative and quantitative approaches to study policy feasibility and public support.
Education: BA in European Law, International Relations, and Political Economy from University College Maastricht; MPP/MSc from Hertie School of Governance. Professional experience includes roles at Wuppertal Institute, Mercator Research Institute, and the United Nations. His research has been supported by German Academic Foundation, Mercator Foundation, and Heinrich Böll Foundation.
Key research interests include the nexus of food and climate policy, political economy of meat system transformation, and behavioral responses to climate policies. Recent projects include the SNIS-funded 'Political Economy of Meat System Transformation' and UBA's 'Transformation of the German Food System'.
His articles analyze policy design complexity, public support dynamics, and governance strategies for sustainability transitions. Awards include the SNIS-award for best dissertation in international studies.
