Dr. Lukas Meyer is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Graz, where he heads the Practical Philosophy Department. He earned his doctorate in philosophy and has held positions at Columbia University, Fudan University, and the University of Mannheim. He currently serves as an affiliated professor at Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies.
His research examines justice across temporal and spatial dimensions:
- Intergenerational justice and climate ethics
- Historical injustice and reparations
- Ethical dimensions of climate change policies
- Philosophical foundations of human rights
- Legitimacy in international law
Professor Meyer was a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and currently leads the FWF-funded doctoral program 'Climate Change - Uncertainties, Thresholds and Strategies'. His publications frequently address normative aspects of climate policy, historical redress, and democratic theory.
He has received significant research funding including an ERC Consolidator Grant evaluation position and directs interdisciplinary climate research initiatives at the University of Graz.
