Lukas Menkhoff

Lukas Menkhoff is a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Macroeconomics at DIW Berlin and Professor Emeritus of Economics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He is also affiliated with the Finance Group at HU Berlin and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. His research focuses on international finance, particularly foreign exchange markets, and the impact of financial education in developing economies like Africa.

Menkhoff has held academic positions at universities including Kiel (with a joint appointment at the Kiel Institute), Hanover, and Aachen. His work spans over 30 years, with publications in top journals such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Review of Financial Studies. His research addresses policy-relevant topics such as the effectiveness of foreign exchange interventions, the role of financial literacy in economic development, and the macroeconomic implications of trade policy.
