Prof. Dr. Lukas Gschwend is a full Professor of Legal History, Legal Sociology, and Criminal Law at the University of St. Gallen (HSG). He is affiliated with the School of Law and actively contributes to the Research Community for Legal Sciences (FR-HSG).
- Chair of Legal History, Legal Sociology, and Criminal Law
- Director of the ongoing "Collection of Swiss Legal Sources" edition (since 2006)
- President of the Legal Sources Foundation (SJV)
- Board member of multiple academic organizations
His research spans:
- History of criminal law and crime
- History of legal ideas and science
- Commercial law history
- Minority rights history
He leads the editorial efforts for publications including Rechtskultur and Iusfull.
Scientific leadership roles include:
- Head of the "Collection of Swiss Legal Sources" project
- Member of the Federal Council's Independent Expert Commission (2014–2019)
