Luise Vormittag is a Reader in Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London (UAL). Her practice-led research explores the intersection of image-making, community, and place, with a focus on collaborative projects that amplify marginalized voices. She co-leads the Colouring In initiative with Dr. Stephanie Black, investigating illustration’s role in global debates. Prior to academia, she co-founded the illustration collective Container (2002–2014).

Research Interests: Her work bridges illustration with political philosophy, human geography, and ethnography. Recent projects include Cracks in the Pavement (community walking maps) and Write Women into History (documenting feminist narratives). She explores how illustration fosters sociability and collective identity, emphasizing materiality and embodied experience.
Grants & Collaborations:
- Developed the Helping Hands renal cookbook with Vital Arts and NHS patients
- Recipient of Creative Voucher funding for community projects
Labs/Teams: Co-director of Colouring In, a research platform examining illustration’s societal impact, and collaborator with Latin Elephant on urban equity initiatives.
