Dr. Luisa Ostacchini is the inaugural Nelson J. Carr Career Development Fellow at Jesus College, University of Oxford. Her role, funded by the Richey Family Foundation, combines postdoctoral research on global medieval connections with academic skills support for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. She holds a DPhil in Old English and Latin Literature from Wolfson College (2021), following an MSt in Medieval English Literature (2017) and a BA in English and Comparative Literature from the University of Warwick (2015).
Her research focuses on medieval perceptions of global connectivity, particularly in early medieval England (650–1100). Key projects include analyzing Ælfric of Eynsham’s Lives of Saints (2024 book) and the Old English Martyrology, exploring how medieval writers conceptualized non-European regions and global unity. She teaches across medieval literature, Latin language, and contemporary theories like queer theory and translation studies.
Dr. Ostacacchini provides academic support at Jesus College through one-to-one mentoring, workshops on academic writing/time management, and initiatives to enhance inclusivity in higher education. Her current research bridges encyclopedic writing, translation practices, and medieval global imagination, challenging Eurocentric narratives in medieval studies.
