Luis Campos

Luis Campos is Associate Professor for History of Science, Technology, and Innovation at Rice University’s Department of History, with joint appointments as Faculty Scholar at the Baker Institute for Public Policy and Co-Director of the Program in Science and Technology Studies. He earned his AB in Biology and PhD in History of Science from Harvard University, and an MA from the University of Cambridge.

Campos researches intersections of biology and society, focusing on genetics, synthetic biology, and astrobiology. He authored Radium and the Secret of Life (2015) and co-edited Nature Remade: Engineering Life, Envisioning Worlds (2021). He chairs the 2025 'Spirit of Asilomar' summit on biotechnology futures and previously organized conferences on genetic engineering policy in Houston and Paris.

Honors include NASA Astrobiology Chair and AAAS Sarton Lectureship. He teaches history of science, biology, and technology.
