Luis Alfaro

Luis Alfaro is an Associate Professor of Dramatic Writing at the University of Southern California (USC). A renowned playwright and MacArthur Fellow, his work explores themes of identity, heritage, and Latinx experiences, often reimagining classical narratives like Greek mythology through contemporary lenses. In Spring 2022, he participated in the Luis Alfaro Residency Project (LARP) at the University of Illinois, funded by the Presidential Initiative for the Arts and Humanities. This residency included storytelling workshops addressing mental health barriers in communities of color, cross-campus visits to UIUC and UIS for creative writing sessions and public dialogues, and guest lectures in courses on Greek tragedy and mythology.
