Lucía Rubio

Lucía Rubio is a Lecturer in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Yale University, within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Master’s degree in Spanish Language Pedagogy from the University of Utah, along with degrees in Sociology from the State University of New York and Education from the University of Oviedo, Spain.

Her research and professional work focus on Spanish language pedagogy, particularly in the areas of heritage and advanced language learners. She is deeply committed to improving articulation between secondary and post-secondary language education, with extensive experience in curriculum development, teacher training, and language assessment. She has contributed significantly to professional learning initiatives for secondary language educators.

Her publications include co-authoring the Spanish textbook Tercer Milenio and several articles on language education. Her work reflects a strong engagement with pedagogical innovation and assessment practices in Spanish instruction.

Lucía Rubio is a certified oral and written proficiency tester (OPI/WPT) for the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages and serves as an examiner for the Instituto Cervantes. She also contributes to national education standards as a reader for the College Board Spanish Advanced Placement exam.

She previously taught at the University of Utah for over two decades and served as the Spanish Secondary Coordinator in Utah’s Dual Language Immersion Program, where she led curriculum design and teacher coaching initiatives. She is actively involved in shaping language education policy and practice at both state and national levels.
